Aluminium Saws
In metal fabrication shops across Australia, aluminium is a preferred material due to its lightweight nature, corrosion resistance and workability. However, to cut aluminium accurately, safely and efficiently, workshops require purpose built saws. These are specialised cutting tools specifically designed for the properties of aluminium.
Unlike steel, aluminium requires specific blade types and cutting speeds to avoid burring, heat warping, or inaccurate cuts.
Aluminium saws are designed with:
- High-speed circular blades or carbide-tipped blades
- Dedicated clamping systems for precision
- Lubrication or mist cooling systems to reduce friction
Adequate power is an essential component of efficient cutting of non-ferrous material as the RPM of the blade needs to be consistent throughout the cut. If the blade slows down, chips bond to the teeth of the blade and effective chip removal is lost.
Aluminium cutting saws are ideal for cutting aluminium bars, angles, profiles, and sheets in industries such as construction, signage, transport, and aerospace.
MEP Aluminium Saws
The MEP Cobra range of aluminium saws function at 1400 or 2800 RPM, utilising a 2.2kW motor and a quality carbide tipped blade. This provides high-speed cutting, with very little transfer of heat into the cut material. It provides an excellent finish to the cut surface. The MEP Aluminium Saws we have available are:
MEP Cobra 352MA – manual pivoting circular saw ideal for aluminium and light alloy cutting.
MEP Cobra 352 NC 5.0 – automatic circular saw ideal for cutting aluminium. It is easy to use and extremely flexible in its application.
Note: High RPM saws using carbide-tipped blades are not recommended for cutting ferrous material. There are exceptions to this rule, such as the MEP Velocex range of high-speed saws, but they are a different type of machine altogether.
